Herbert Smith LLP and the National Law School of India Review (NLSIR) are proud to announce the launch of the Second Annual Herbert Smith Essay Competition.

The competition is open to students from NLSIU ( Bangalore ), NALSAR ( Hyderabad ), NUJS (Kolkata), and NLU (Jodhpur ). The topic for the competition is "The Existence and Relevance of the McDowell Rule: An Analysis of the Use of the Corporation as a Vehicle of Tax Planning in light of Vodafone and the Direct Tax Code". The last date for submissions is 27 January, 2010 . The winner of the competition may invited to present his/her paper at the 3 rd Annual NLSIR Symposium to be held on 10 & 11 April, 2010, if suitable.

Four prizes shall be awarded. The prize winners will receive a sum of Rs.25,000, 15,000, 10,000 and 7,500, respectively.
